Have you ever heard the saying, “One bad apple can spoil the bunch?”

As fruit ripens it lets off a gas that prods around to ripen the others causing them to change and become like the one next to it and eventually rot. The same goes with mold. An apple that is infested with mold will contaminate other fruit it’s stored with as the mold seeks additional food sources and spreads.

What do you do when you find yourself in a particular environment that you believe is unhealthy? Are you like me and consciously choose to remain in that environment in hopes that you can bring about positive changes while you begin “rot?” Think about who you were previously versus who you are this very moment.

Have you noticed that you regularly suffer from increased:

  • Physical and/or emotional exhaustion
  • Depersonalization
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of self-contempt
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Weight Loss
  • Headaches
  • Poor job satisfaction

If this rings a bell to you, chances are you are in an environment that is making you sick. It can be a relationship with a significant other, a friendship, even work. I encourage you to be proactive for your mental health and remove yourself from the unhealthy environment. Just as you have been infected, it is likely you will eventually become part of the problem and begin infecting others in your life with the negativity that has been causing the suffering that you have experienced.

Just like when one person becomes sick in a household, it is only a matter of time before the sickness spreads to the other family members. Just remember you cannot heal in the same environment that has made you sick.
